JOHN Mallinger won the Pebble Beach Invitational golf, making birdies on four of the last six holes for a four-under 68 and a two-stroke victory over Jason Gore.

Mallinger, who lost his fully exempt PGA Tour status after finishing 133rd on the money-list, made a 25ft birdie putt on the 18th to finish at 15-under 273 in the event featuring 76 male and female players.

“I putted well today and putted well all week,” said Mallinger, who has eight top-three finishes but is winless since joining the PGA Tour in 2006. “I love Pebble Beach. It’s tough to beat Pebble Beach.”

Gore, who will join Mallinger in the PGA Tour’s final qualifying tournament, closed with a bogey-free 65.

Pat Perez (65) and Champions Tour player Russ Cochran (71) tied for third at 11-under. Annika Sorenstam, completing her first 72-hole tournament since her LPGA Tour retirement in 2008, shot a 73 to finish at three-under.

John Mallinger will head to the upcoming PGA Tour Q-School Finals with a victory at world-famous Pebble Beach Golf Links in tow.

Mallinger, who finished at No. 133 on this year's PGA Tour money list, birdied four of his final six holes Sunday, including the 18th, shooting a 4-under 68, to hold off a hard-charging Jason Gore and win the 39th annual Callaway Golf Pebble Beach Invitational.

Harbor High graduate Juli Inkster finished tied for 27th at 17 back after shooting 74 on Sunday. Santa Cruz native Isaac Weintraub finished with a 78 to finish 24 back.

Gore, who's also headed to the Q-School Finals after finishing 40th on this year's Nationwide Tour money list, shot a final round 65 to finish at 275, two behind Mallinger.

It's tough to beat Pebble Beach. Earlier, following a bogey on 10th hole, Mallinger had trailed Champions Tour member Russ Cochran, who began the day a stroke behind and was looking to become the first Champions Tour player to ever win the tournament, by one.

"It's about time he Mallinger won something here. Two-time LPGA Tour winner Morgan Pressel, who started the day four behind Mallinger and played in a unique three-tour final threesome with Mallinger and Cochran, shot a 72 to finish at 281, the lowest total of 13 LPGA entrants.

Legend Annika Sorenstam, playing in her first 72-hole event in two years, shot a final round 73 to finish tied for 12th at 285, 12 strokes behind Mallinger.

Tommy Armour III, who won the event in 2008 and 2009 while a member of the PGA Tour, is among eight Champions Tour entrants. Jamie Lovemark, the top money earner on this season's Nationwide Tour, will be among 17 Nationwide Tour entrants.

Trailing by 17 points, New York's Tim Carter recovered a Burress fumble in the end zone for a Giants touchdown. Then, a Westbrook fumble led to Manning's 22-yard touchdown pass to Amani Toomer. Jay Feely forced overtime with a 35-yard field goal with seven seconds to play in regulation, aided by a 15-yard penalty on Trent Cole for kicking a New York player. The comeback was completed in overtime when Manning hit Burress on a 31 yard fade pass for the win.

vince young

Vince Young is a quarterback for the Tennessee Titans, and was the third overall selection in the 2006 NFL Draft after leading the University of Texas to the BCS National Championship in the 2005 season. Following the win, Young announced he would forego his final season and enter the 2006 NFL Draft. The Titans selected Young as the top quarterback of the draft -- over USC's Matt Leinart -- with the third overall pick. In his first full season of 2007, Young helped the Titans snare the final playoff spot in the AFC, where the team fell to the Chargers. Young did not regain the starting role until six games into the 2009 season -- after the team started out 0-6 -- and Young helped the team win eight of their final 10 to climb into playoff contention by the end of the campaign.

Young tore a tendon in his right thumb and might need surgery, but the biggest news came when Coach Jeff Fisher told reporters after the game that Young, who left the stadium abruptly right after the game, has lost the starting job regardless on his condition.

Fisher said Young has a torn flexor tendon in his right thumb and may need season-ending surgery. Fisher and Young spoke in the locker room in what apparently was a heated discussion. Fisher wouldn't discuss what Young said to him.

The Tennessean reported Sunday night team officials will discuss Young in a conference call with owner Bud Adams on Monday. Young was the No. 3 overall pick in 2006, that season's Offensive Rookie of the Year. A day later, Fisher contacted police for help because family worried Young might hurt himself.

Young got his job back last season after Tennessee opened 0-6 on orders from Adams. Young is 30-17 as a starting quarterback, but Tennessee now is 5-5 with three straight losses.

Fisher said he was very disappointed and thinks Young's teammates are disappointed in Young's behavior after this loss.

Told that Young's injury could end his season, Griffin said he didn't know that

"Whatever happens, that's between them two," Griffin said of Fisher and Young.

blake griffin dunk

On a late-night flight from coast to coast, when the Knicks closed their eyes, they probably found Blake Griffin haunting their dreams, dunking sheep at 30,000 feet.

Because of YouTube, “SportsCenter” and the sheer wonder of the spectacle, the final game, Saturday’s, will be remembered for Griffin’s slam over the 7-foot-1 Timofey Mozgov. It might be forgotten that the Knicks won the game, 124-115.

“I will take getting dunked on for the rest of the year, every single game, if we get the win.”

Raymond Felton steadied his game and emerged as a potent scoring threat. “Obviously, the record’s better, so that helps everybody,” D’Antoni said Saturday night. Mostly, the Knicks emerged as a more fluid and cohesive team on offense. After their first 11 games, they ranked 24th in offensive efficiency (points per 100 possessions). The Knicks’ defensive efficiency, however, sank to 25th, from 13th, amid the shootouts.

“Steve can be the end-all guy,” D’Antoni said. The changes helped shake Gallinari out of a prolonged funk. He averaged 25.5 points during the trip, possibly the best four-game stretch of his career. “We need to go back home and win some games at home every once in a while.”

I saw Mateen Cleeves and Eduardo Najera head butt each other at full speed in a tournament game. I saw the Arkansas mascot blow out his knee in a pre-game routine before a Final Four game.

Griffin's head knock was a first.

Hernandez was as dominant in the voting as he was on the mound. Ballots cast by the Baseball Writers' Association of America gave him 21 of 28 first-place votes, and he topped the second-place finisher by 56 votes.

Hernandez led the American League in earned-run average (2.27), innings pitched (249-2/3) and quality starts (30). Hernandez combined tenacity and capacity with superb performance. No pitcher has previously won with fewer than 15 victories. Young also owned Major League Baseball's record for losses. Hitting legend Babe Ruth, who famously aimed a home run over the fence, would not have pointed toward his epic strikeout numbers.

Selecting Mariners pitcher Felix Hernandez as the American League Cy Young Award winner recognizes the artistry he brought to the craft of pitching. Hernandez dazzled in a season with a three-digit loss record. Even as the team stumbled, Hernandez was posting numbers that made winning a possibility, if only his teammates had mustered a little offense.

Murray Chass spoke with Phil Rogers of the Chicago Tribune about the American League Cy Young Award results. Rogers, who voted for David Price, wondered about the outcome:

Please.  Here’s Tracy Ringolsby, offering his opinion of Hernandez’s win:

Félix Abraham Hernández (born April 8, 1986, in Valencia, Venezuela), nicknamed "King Felix", is a Major League Baseball starting pitcher for the Seattle Mariners.

Like some other pitchers, Hernández wears a long-sleeved undershirt beneath his uniform jersey.

McDowell narrowed Kaymer's lead in the Race to just under €291,000 after finishing fifth behind Ryder Cup team-mate Ian Poulter in the Hong Kong Open.

Poulter has bumped Rory McIlroy out of the top 10 in the world rankings in capturing the Hong Kong title in his first appearance in the event. It is Poulter's second win this year after capturing the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship.

McIlroy started with a bogey en route to 67 to finish sixth, one place behind McDowell on 18-under-par.

Damien McGrane signed off for a 63 that included driving the shortened par-four 10th green for eagle, and six birdies, to finish tied 11th on 15-under-par.

McDowell, McIlroy, Clarke, Maybin and Hoey all retain their full Tour membership for next season.

Ian Poulter held off a spirited challenge from Matteo Manassero to win the Hong Kong Open by one stroke. The 17-year-old Manassero shot an eight-under-par 62 at the Fanling course and finished at 21-under 259, but Poulter’s 67 was enough to secure his 10th win on the European Tour.

Mallinger made a 25-foot birdie putt on No. 18 to finish at 15-under 273. He won $60,000. Pebble Beach

Mr. Liang has finished in the top 15 in the past four Hong Kong Open tournaments.

Mr. Kaymer decided to skip the Hong Kong tournament to prepare for the Dubai World Championship next week. A win in Hong Kong for Mr. McDowell would make him almost even with Mr. Kaymer in the rankings going into Dubai.

The Hong Kong Open starts at 6:50 a.m. Thursday at the Hong Kong Golf Club (www.hkgolfclub.org) in Fanling, and finishes Saturday, weather permitting.

Ian Poulter posted a three-under 67 on Sunday to earn a hard-fought victory at the Hong Kong Open, his 10th European Tour title.

Poulter finished at 22-under 258 and won by a single stroke over teenager Matteo Manassero (62) and Simon Dyson (65) at Hong Kong Golf Club.

"Today was pretty flawless golf," admitted Poulter in a televised interview. "I played great all week. At the par-five third, Poulter's four-iron second shot landed in water. Poulter rebounded at the very next hole. Dyson missed a four-foot par save at the eighth and Poulter was alone in first. Manassero birdied 12, eagled 13 and birdied 15 and 17 to get to 21-under par. Dyson sank a 12-footer for birdie at 15 and Poulter's lead shrunk to two shots.

After Dyson nearly made a lengthy birdie putt at 18, Poulter still held a two- shot margin on the 18th tee. Poulter lagged his par putt down to tap-in range, then did just that for his 10th European Tour victory.
