Hendry's tied for fourth, seven under par and just three shots off the pace at the Bear Creek tournament in California - one of six qualifiers scattered across America.

Next month's PGA Q-school final is a six-round tournament in Florida where only the low 25 and ties are exempt on the 2011 PGA Tour.

Acuna, who makes his home in Humble and plays at Redstone on a regular basis, fired a final-round 66 to finish third in the PGA Tour School’s 72-regional qualifying tournament at 12-under-par.

The 26-year-old Acuna, who graduated from the University of Houston in 2007, had failed to advance to the final stage of qualifying school in his first two attempts.

Acuna chose the University of Houston after graduating from Guatemala City High School in Mexico. The top 19 players, including ties, advanced to the 108-hole Q-school finals. The cut line fell at 2-over-par 290.

The Woodlands’ Craig Kanada and Spring’s Randy Lowry failed to advance after finishing tied for 38th at 6-over-par 294.

Doug Barron, who was trying to earn back his PGA Tour card after a one-year suspension for doping, finished tied for 35th at 5-over-par 293.

“I am very disappointed,’’ the 41-year-old Barron said of not advancing to the final stage of Q-school. “PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem made Barron's suspension retroactive to Sept. 20, 2009, so he could tee it up in the second stage of 2010 Q- school.
